Hey pretty Mama, this question comes up all the time when I start training a new client. Newly expectant moms are concerned that they may be overexerting, hurting the baby and unsure of which exercises are safe to do during pregnancy.
Truthfully there is no best exercise for a pregnant mom, it really depends on her workout history, fitness level, if she was active before falling pregnant, her likes and dislikes, how much time she has available on a given day and how she is feeling.
The key is to tune in and listen to her body, and if she wasn’t active before falling pregnant walking is a great form of exercise which can be implemented throughout the entire pregnancy. Another consideration is to change it up and incorporate other types of exercise along with walking. For example: Swimming, provided she knows how to swim, shallow-water aerobics, weight training, and prenatal yoga.
If she is new to any of these, she should take a class, at a studio or with an experienced live, interactive Prenatal Fitness Coach who will guide her. Remember to also have fun.
Be well. Be Fit. Be Strong and always yourself.
